After giving scintillating performances in London and other parts of Europe, ‘The Merchants of Bollywood’ is mesmerizing Australia.
This musical opened at the theatre at Conrad Jupiters on the Gold Coast recently. ‘The Merchants of Bollywood’ reveals the story of a young girl and her grandfather and their love for dance, also portraying a dynasty of stars who have adorned the industry over generations. This musical will reveal to the Western audiences the workings of Indian cinema and the role it plays in the Indian society. With a cast of 40 dancers and actors from Bombay, it presents hit songs from the blockbusters of the past 40 years. This musical is written by Toby Gough and choreographed by none other than Vaibhavi Merchant herself, whose life is portrayed here in a beautifully dramatized way. Vaibhavi has contributed some of the most loved numbers like ‘Dhol Baaje’ in ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, the sensational ‘Kajra Re’ in ‘Bunty Aur Bubli’ and of course the unmatched ‘Aaja Nachle’. The talented and sensitive duo of Salim and Suleiman Merchant has composed the music for this phenomenal ballet.
